Sylvia Bierschenk tried to get out, but we kept pulling her back in. After 26 years at Stephen F. Austin State University, the last ten of which she served as director of arts information, Sylvia announced her retirement. We thoroughly enjoyed working with her to produce the fine arts season brochures and Effects, the college's annual report on giving, and we just couldn't bear the thought of not having an excuse to hang out with her. Luckily, she agreed to bring her considerable talents to the A Team, so now we get to see her all the time. And what considerable talents she has! She majored in English/communication at SFA and followed that up with an M.A. in English. She has taught composition and developmental reading as adjunct faculty, presented workshops at numerous conferences, tracked a multi-million dollar grant as an evaluation assistant, and spent the last decade as the hyper-organized voice of the College of Fine Arts, School of Art, School of Music and School of Theatre, all of which makes her the perfect hyper-organized whip-cracker here at Point A. Outside the office, Sylvia volunteers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, works on genealogy, and spends time with her husband and best friend, Joe. The two of them enjoy visiting their three adult children, who are scattered across the country, and discovering great new vistas as they camp and hike in all sorts of beautiful places.
